The Dell C3422WE is a work-from-home monitor with a built-in webcam, microphone, and soundbar.

It’s a sharp display with vibrant and accurate color, with a convenient webcam that’s however lacking in image quality.

All told, this monitor costs nearly as much as some high-end all-in-one computers, making it a niche sell.

According to Pew Research, 71% of U.S. workers in roles that can be performed remotely now work from home, a massive leap from just 20% in early 2020. This sudden shift created a buying frenzy for webcams, monitors, microphones, speakers, and USB hubs that has just started dying down.

What if you could have all of those gadgets in a single device? That’s the Dell C3422WE. It’s a 34-inch, ultrawide monitor with a built-in webcam, microphone, and soundbar. It also has a USB-C hub with power delivery, so it can charge a compatible laptop.

This all-in-one approach promises a simple, clutter-free home office, though it doesn’t come cheap. Dell lists the C3422WE at an MSRP of $1,149.99, putting it in the upper echelon of ultrawide displays, much less all-in-one computers with comparable displays.

The Dell C3422WE has the unoffensive, professional look common among all Dell monitors outside its gaming line. Its solid silver stand connects to a wide expanse of forgettable, but sturdy, matte-black plastic.

Just one aspect of the monitor stands out: the soundbar. Gray fabric covers the monitor’s chin, hiding an integrated pair of 5-watt speakers and the monitor’s noise-cancelling microphone. It’s a simple touch that gives the Dell C3422WE an upscale look.

The hefty stand is ergonomically adjustable in several ways, including 120mm of height adjustment and 60 degrees of swivel. It does a great job of keeping the monitor planted and wobble-free. The C3422WE’s extra features add weight to the monitor, but adjusting the monitor’s position on the stand doesn’t require much force.

Setup and interface

Setting up the C3422WE is simple, as with most monitors. You’ll remove the stand first, then attach the stand to the back of the monitor and use it as a handle to lift the display panel. Then, simply place the monitor on your desk and add power, …read more
