The safer communities gun buyback event took place at Ronald Book Athletic Stadium. Residents were asked to trade in their guns for either $150 gift cards or a laptop computer. Each gun was worth one gift card or computer. • Man killed in Pompano Beach double shooting Police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place in Pompano Beach. It happened in the area of Northeast 24th Street and 6th Avenue at approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, officers found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital where the man was pronounced dead. There has been no word from police on what led to the shooting, or if there are any suspects being sought. • Vehicles badly damaged following early morning crash in Northwest Miami-Dade Authorities are investigating a nasty car crash in Northwest Miami-Dade. It happened early Sunday morning in the area of Northwest 23rd Avenue and 54th Street. At least two vehicles were involved, and it appeared one of them hit a pole. Both were very badly damaged. • Police: Man pistol-whipped, robbed along bike path in Miami Springs What police said is a residential area with limited crime incidents was the scene of an attack on Friday just after 6 p.m. According to Miami Springs police, a man on a bike path on Ludlam Drive was attacked when 2 men armed with guns approached him from behind and demanded his wallet. When the man told them he was not carrying a wallet, they said they wanted his cellphone, but not before pistol-whipping him. After taking the phone, the two men, described as Black males, entered a vehicle driven by a third person and drove in reverse into Virginia…
• Coral Gables high school football coach is safe, police say Miami-Dade police officers reported on Friday that Roger Pollard, the head football coach at Coral Gables Senior High School who had vanished on Tuesday night, was found safe. Miami-Dade detectives and Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto Carvalho asked the public for help finding him. Pollard’s wife, Shay Moen, first shared her distress on Facebook on Wednesday saying no one had seen or talked to him. On Thursday, Moen said through tears that all she wanted was for Pollard to return to their home in Miami-Dade County. Police officers didn’t say where Pollard had been.
