- UCLA men’s basketball wary of Washington as a trap game A Saturday afternoon start doesn’t exactly scream primetime. Neither do the makings of the game between UCLA and Washington, each on the other side of the Pac-12 standings. The Bruins are in first place at 6-0, while the Huskies are 0-6. Some might call it a “trap game”. It’s cliché because it happens all too often. A high-flying team off a big win – like Thursday afternoon’s 30-point win over Washington State – hosts a one-win team looking to claim its first conference victory of the season. Upon further review: It’s a trap game. “All I know is we play…
- UCLA football promotes Jerry Neuheisel to wide receivers coach UCLA has promoted Jerry Neuheisel to wide receivers coach after spending seven of the past nine seasons with the program as a back-up quarterback and most recently a graduate assistant coach working with receivers. Neuheisel, who started his coaching career at Texas A&M as an offensive quality control coach in 2017 before returning to UCLA, will replace former receivers coach Jimmie Dougherty, who was named an assistant at Arizona. UCLA coach Chip Kelly brought Neuheisel back to UCLA as a graduate assistant in 2018, where he has been the past three seasons. Neuheisel was mostly a back-up quarterback at UCLA…
- Heisman Trophy outlook: Pac-12 faces long odds in 2021 race without a preseason frontrunner The 2020 Heisman Trophy was awarded 10 days ago, but odds for the 2021 race are already out. The top tier of candidates is stocked with quarterbacks from the Pac-12 footprint but playing for powerhouse programs elsewhere: Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, who’s from Phoenix, is the favorite, followed by Alabama’s Bryce Young, Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei and Georgia’s JT Daniels, who are from Southern California. The Pac-12 wasn’t completely ignored by the bookies. USC quarterback Kedon Slovis and Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels are on the crowded second tier. Granted, it’s early, ridiculously early. Odds will change; frontrunners will fade; contenders will…
