6 Philadelphia Police Officers Shot In Standoff
At least one shooter opened fire in a North Philadelphia neighborhood on Wednesday, injuring six police officers in a prolonged standoff.
In a tweet, Police Sgt. Eric Gripp said those six officers were taken to local hospitals with “non life-threatening injuries.” They were reportedly in stable condition. He also relayed that several other officers were “receiving treatment for non-gunshot injuries.”
According to CBS3 Philly, a Philadelphia police captain said the shooting began after officers were dispatched to the scene for “narcotics activity.”
Gripp said officers were trying to talk to the shooter in an effort to end the standoff without further injuries.
And as of Wednesday evening, two law enforcement officers were trapped inside the building with the shooter, though they were reportedly on a different floor.
According to a White House spokesman, President Donald Trump “has been briefed on the shooting in Philadelphia and continues to monitor the situation.”
