Letter: Council blocked making Santa Clara ‘Emissions City’
Council blocked making
Santa Clara ‘Emissions City’
Re: “Silicon Valley companies, professors criticize new Santa Clara energy regulation” (Mercurynews.com, May 10):
I applaud the Santa Clara City Council’s bold, brave and unanimous decision to block future installations of baseload electrical generation equipment powered by fossil fuels.
This decision protects the public interest – not the private interest of one local company — and follows similar actions by the cities of Pasadena and Burbank. Electricity from Santa Clara’s municipal utility is 72 percent carbon-free and will be even greener in the future.

Though I am not a resident of “The Mission City,” I am heartily glad that its City Council showed that it has no intention of turning Santa Clara into “The Emissions City.”
