Koepka, Johnson lead Woods, McIlroy on PGA Championship odds
A two-way race has emerged on this week’s golf betting lines at the sportsbooks, with Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson listed as the +1000 co-favourites on the PGA Championship odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Koepka has been a force to be reckoned with at recent golf majors, with his victory at last year’s PGA Championship marking his third win in seven major tournament appearances going into Thursday morning’s opening-round action of the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black Course.
The 29-year-old American has carried his steady play into the 2019 season, which he opened with a win at the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges, followed by three top-five finishes including a second-place performance at the Masters while sporting +2500 odds. But while Koepka’s play has lifted him to No. 3 on the World Golf Rankings, he can expect to face stiff competition from Johnson, who travels to New York in search of his first career PGA Championship win.
Johnson’s recent win at the WGC-Mexico Championship marks just one of his seven top-10 finishes this season. The 34-year-old, who claimed his lone career major tournament win at the 2016 US Open, is also coming off a strong performance at Augusta, where he finished in a second-place tie with Koepka to reclaim top spot on the World Golf Rankings after being briefly toppled from his familiar perch by England’s Justin Rose.
However, Johnson has enjoyed limited success in previous PGA Championship appearances, finishing out of the top 10 in his past two appearances, and missing the cut in four of seven appearances. Johnson also lags behind Koepka as a +650 wager to be the top American at this year’s tournament on the PGA Championship betting props.
