Clippers 135; Warriors 131: Warriors experienced Game 2 upset; Cousins’ injury scare

OAKLAND — The Warriors lost a four-time All-Star and one of the game’s most dominant centers. But even if they have concerns about DeMarcus Cousins’ left quad injury, the Warriors have much more pressing concerns.

The Warriors suffered a 135-131 Game 2 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers of their first-round series on Monday at Oracle Arena after squandering a 31-point lead. The Clippers had 44 third-quarter points and 41 fourth-quarter points. After Stephen Curry missed a potential game-winning 3, Montrezl Harrell iced the game with a pair of fouls shots with 5.1 seconds left.

The Warriors committed 22 turnovers after vowing they would rectify the 21 turnovers they had in Game 1. The Warriors collected 31 fouls. And the Clippers’ bench in Lou Williams (36), Harrell (25) and JaMychal Green (13) proved devastating again.

Oh, and the Warriors have an Cousins injury to monitor.

He played only four minutes before missing the rest of Game 2 of the team’s first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday because of a left quad injury. The Warriors said that Cousins plans to have an MRI within the next 24 hours.

After forcing a turnover on Clippers center Ivica Zubac, Cousins chased the looseball only to fall without anyone around him. Cousins fell right in front of the Warriors’ bench, prompting Steve Kerr, his assistants and the team’s training staff to stand up. Cousins soon stood up on his own, but he promptly limped to the locker room with 8:09 left in the first quarter.

The Warriors initially seemed just fine relying on their other All-Stars in Curry (29 points), Kevin Durant (21), Klay Thompson (17) and Draymond Green (14 points, nine assists). Kevon Looney had a career-high 19 points.
