Couple who inspired ‘The Vow’ is getting a divorce


Kim and Krickett Carpenter, the couple whose extraordinary love story inspired the movie, “The Vow,” starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, is reportedly getting a divorce.

In a two-part segment airing on Tuesday and Wednesday, “Inside Edition” speaks with the couple that is splitting up after 25 years together.

Kim and Krickett married in 1993. Two months later, as depicted in the movie, they were in a horrific car accident. Krickett suffered a serious brain injury and was in a coma for 21 days. When she awoke, she had lost all memory of her husband, and had to fall in love with him all over again.

Now, Krickett tells “Inside Edition” that Kim has broken their vow.

“Kim was having an affair,” she says. “I never thought that’s the road I would go down because I made a vow for life.”

“Inside Edition” first spoke with Krickett and Kim when the movie came out in 2012. Then, Kim said that despite the hardship of Krickett’s memory loss, he stayed in the marriage because of the vow he made.

Krickett now says she was stunned to learn her husband was unfaithful

“It was shocking and surprising to me because we were so committed to each other and to the vow,” she said.

They have two children – a son, Danny, born in 2000 and a daughter, Lee Ann born in 2003. “Inside Edition” reports that Krickett moved into a townhouse with her daughter, while her son moved in with Kim.
