Live updates: Raiders vs. Lions in preseason opener, Friday night

Get live scoring updates, news and analysis Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the Raiders welcome Jon Gruden back to the sideline in their preseason opener against the Detroit Lions at the Coliseum.

Gruden, who signed a 10-year, $100 million contract to leave Monday Night Football’s booth and coach the Raiders again, will no doubt face an adoring crowd in his first appearance as Oakland’s coach since 2001.

As for the action on the field, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr won’t see much action in the opener, neither will running back Marshawn Lynch nor many other starters. The real competition will be for backup roles, led by quarterbacks E.J. Manuel and Connor Cook vying for the No. 2 quarterback job.
