A group of Parkland, Florida, students filed a civil rights lawsuit Wednesday in connection to the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The 15 plaintiffs include 13 minor students, who are being represented by their parents or guardians. Their lawsuit alleges that school officials and members of law enforcement failed to protect students during the shooting that left 17 people dead.

The complaint says Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel and the school’s superintendent had both been warned beforehand about the school’s lack of security, but did nothing to fix it.

Other defendants named in the lawsuit include the law enforcement officer who was in charge of the shooting scene, a school guard and Scot Peterson, the now-former school resource officer who never went into the building during the shooting.

The plaintiffs say their “actions and inactions caused children to die, get injured and get traumatized.”

The Broward Sheriff’s Office and the school district both told local media that they have no comment on the lawsuit.
