San Jose Community Briefs: St. James Park to host free “The Sandlot” viewing

St. James Park, St. James Street and N. 2nd, hosts the free outdoor movie “The Sandlot” on Saturday, July 21. Movie starts once it gets dark, about 9 p.m., but early arrivals can meet San Jose Giants mascot, Gigante, who will likely have some give-aways. You can also put your name in a draw to win a San Jose Giants VIP Experience Package that includes: four box seats, four barbecue vouchers, a video board welcome, along with a chance to deliver the first pitch opportunity, and win a swag bag. The film is a 1993 U.S. movie about a group of baseball-playing kids growing up in the summer of 1962. Up next is the Oscar-winning “Coco” on Aug. 18.
Dine Downtown Restaurant Week kicks off Friday, July 13 encouraging residents to choose local restaurants. Check your favorite eateries for the symbols that indicate Prix Fixe Menus, Food & Drink Pairings or Chef Specials through July 22. Last year, the effort included 200 San Jose restaurants.
