My heart started pumping a little bit faster when the folks at California’s Great America announced back in August that they were building the West Coast’s first single-rail steel coaster.

A single-rail steel coaster? What would that even look like? And how would the ride differ from the regular two-rail coasters that I already know and love?

I didn’t know the answers to those questions then. But I do now, having been one of the first to ride on RailBlazer, the exciting new single-rail coaster that opens to the general public on Thursday, June 14.

RailBlazer represents yet another major win for the Santa Clara theme park, nicely complementing Great America’s equally fun, yet vastly different, wooden coaster Gold Striker that opened to much applause in 2013.
