Notebook: De La Salle, Foothill reach EBAL baseball final
It will be Foothill visiting De La Salle on Friday for the East Bay Athletic League baseball championship.
The North Coast Section powers reached the title game with semifinal victories Wednesday.
De La Salle, playing at home, avenged a loss to Amador Valley last week with an 11-1 rout of the Dons. The victory was De La Salle’s 16th in its past 17 games.
Foothill took care of business against Monte Vista, scoring three runs in the first inning on its way to an 8-3 win.
In the only meeting between the teams during the league’s regular season, April 13 in Pleasanton, De La Salle scored four runs in the 10th inning to beat Foothill 6-2.
In De La Salle’s semifinal win Wednesday, Austin Elder had three hits, including two doubles, knocked in two runs and scored twice. The Spartans also got three hits, including a double, three RBIs and a run from Jared Amigh and five shutout innings from Kyle Harrison.
Brett Hansen had two hits, including a double, two RBIs, scored a run and pitched four shutout innings in Foothill’s semifinal victory.
Cory Steinhauer also was spectacular for the Falcons, hitting a home run and two doubles, scoring three runs and driving in two.
Jaylen Edmonds had two hits and knocked in three runs as Washington-Fremont edged host James Logan 8-7 in 10 innings to clinch at least a tie for the Mission Valley Athletic League championship.
