Utah man shot, killed in ‘gathering’ outside Clinton home

CLINTON — Clinton police on Tuesday spent the day serving search warrants and collecting evidence connected to a deadly shooting in front of a house where another death was investigated six months ago.

Deven Tomas Gallegos, 21, of North Ogden, was shot and killed Monday night in Clinton, according to Clinton Police Lt. Shawn Stoker.

Just after 9:30 p.m., police were called to the area near 1100 N. 1000 West. Neighbors reported hearing four to eight gunshots, possibly from a drive-by shooting, and several vehicles leaving the area with their headlights off, Stoker said.

While Clinton police were investigating that incident, emergency dispatchers in Clearfield received a 911 call. Officers went to 300 S. State where they found a truck parked behind a Pizza Hut. Gallegos, who was inside the truck, was declared dead at the scene, Stoker said.

Another person in the vehicle confirmed that Gallegos was involved in the earlier shooting incident in Clinton, he said.

Since Monday night, police have served at least three search warrants on vehicles and a home and interviewed several people. Stoker said detectives no longer believe Gallegos’ death was the result of a drive-by shooting.

“We believe it was instead a gathering of some sort in the roadway that involved people who were in vehicles and people who were not in vehicles,” he said.

Police were guarded Tuesday about the information they released as the case is still active. No arrests were made Tuesday.

Stoker said the people involved in the meeting in the roadway were all previously acquainted with each other, but he did not know how. Information about how many guns were involved, how many people fired weapons, who their intended target was, or what sparked the shooting was not released Tuesday.
