ESPN’s Jalen Rose: Rockets are the biggest threat to Warriors

Like a lot of people paid to follow the NBA, Jalen Rose believes the Warriors are overwhelming favorites to repeat as champions. But if there’s any team that has a legitimate chance to dethrone them, it’s the Houston Rockets.

Rose, who dropped by the TV critics press tour to promote ESPN’s upcoming morning show, “Get Up,” likes what the Rockets have done to improve their postseason chances.

“They have a true MVP candidate in James Harden. You add an all-star in Chris Paul, who has been fantastic so far,” he said after appearing in a media conference. “They can shoot the ‘3′ with Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson. They can be physical and play defense with P.J. Tucker and Luc Mbah a Moute. And Clint Capela continues to improve.

“So that would most likely be the team to upset the apple cart.”

The Warriors and Rockets hook up for the third time this season in Houston next Saturday.

Rose, along with Michelle Beadle and former “Mike & Mike” cohost Mike Greenberg, will be part of ESPN’s plans to retrofit its morning lineup. Premiering on April 2 and airing live from 7 to 10 a.m., “Get Up” is described as a blend of news, opinion and analysis.

“Get Up,” which will originate from a new studio at New York City South Street Seaport, joins a crowded morning-TV field populated by other sports-related shows, as well as programs like ABC’s “Good Morning America,” NBC’s “Today” and “CBS This Morning,” all based in Manhattan.

Rose doesn’t worry about standing out from the crowd.

“I think the personalities and the talent make each show unique,” he said. “It’s more important for us to create quality content, have fun segments, and be entertaining. And, more importantly, be ourselves. I think people, when they understand that you’re organic and they can continue …read more
