Milpitas: BevMo! gets OK to relocate to Town Center
BevMo! will be allowed to relocate from the Great Mall to a bigger, more visible space in the former Mervyn’s building in Town Center.
The Milpitas Planning Commission voted 6-0 on Nov. 29 to approve a conditional use permit for off-sale general, on-sale beer and wine and educational tasting licenses for the liquor chain’s proposed new store at 749 E. Calaveras Blvd.
“The project proposes no exterior changes to the building, landscaping or the parking,” Adrienne Smith, an associate planner, said prior to the panel’s vote.
City staff reports state the company’s planned suite is 14,400 square feet and its floor plan will include a large sales area, as well as a stockroom, storage, checkout area and a dedicated space to host instructional tastings.
According to city staff reports, the store will move from its current location at 1210 Great Mall Drive to get more space, higher visibility and a better location for customers. BevMo! requires 15 to 20 employees and anticipates most of them will transfer from the existing location.
The proposed hours of operation for the new store will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. BevMo! requested permits to allow for three separate types of liquor licenses administered by the California Alcohol Control Board (ABC).
